So, there you are, sitting with a friend, feeling absolutely helpless as they lament their woes of life. “man….this ain’t cool… I feel so down. ”
Hmm…what to do? You listen, try to give some uplifting words, but to no avail. Their face is as gloomy as the smog that surrounds a beautiful sunny day here in Southern California. If it would only lift, all would shine.
So here is a cool mental excercise to ask them to do. And yes, they will look at you like you are insane. Its cool. Just tell them to do it anyhow 🙂
Ask them to tilt their head up, and look straight up at the sky, really tilting the head backwards. Then, because you are just cool like that, whip out a pen or miswak that you just happen to have, and ask them to hold it between their teeth, while they keep looking up at the sky, neck all the way back.
Now, while they are doing that, ask them “Do you feel sad, NOW?”
The answer will be either a no, or much less, and for sure, there will be a smile on their face, insha’Allah!
